Ghoskata unit claims victory in Banargaon Anchalik Committee U-13 football tournament

The Ghoskata unit of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) emerged victorious in the fourth edition of the U-13 football tournament organised by the Banargaon Anchalik Committee on Friday.

The final, held on Friday at the Kanthalguri Udangshri Club playing field, was won by the Ghoskata unit over the Khagrabari unit with a thrilling 5-4 scoreline.

The tournament, aimed at discovering young sporting talent in the region, attracted nine teams. After a hard-fought battle, the Ghoskata unit secured victory with a dominant performance in the second half. Despite being 2-1 down at half-time, they fought back with four goals and eventually defended their lead despite two more goals from Khagrabari.

Giyansu Brahma of the Khagrabari unit was awarded the “Best Player” trophy for his outstanding performance during the tournament.

Kampa Basumatary, General Secretary of Kokrajhar District Committee, ABSU, was present as the guest of honour at the prize distribution ceremony. He handed over the champion’s cup and the cash prize to the winning Ghoskata unit. Hantigiri Narzary, Media Secretary of UPPL, and Kalendra Basumatary, Principal of Kanthalguri LP School, handed over the runners-up cup and the cash prize to the Khagrabari unit. It is noteworthy that both Narzary and Basumatary generously contributed to the cash prizes for the winning and runners-up along with trophies and medals for the tournament.

The finale was held under the chairmanship of Karuna Kanta Basumatary, Chairman of the Conduct Committee. The event witnessed the presence of prominent figures from Banargaon Anchalik Committee, Bodosahitya Sabha, Boro Somaj, Tribal Sangha and Banargaon Development Committee. To add a touch of cultural vibrancy, a mesmerizing Bodo cultural demonstration dance was also performed.
