SILVER SPRING, Md. — On Friday, June 21, 2024, Eoline McCrone passed away peacefully at the age of 103 at the home of her daughter, Nancy McCrone.

She was born in Monessen, Pa., the eldest child of Gertrude and Harry Newhouse. She and her husband Mark, who preceded her in death, moved to Leisure World in Silver Spring, Md., in 1992 to be near their children and grandchildren. They lived there for more than 30 years.

She was the beloved mother of Terry McCrone Murray, Richard McCrone, Nancy McCrone and the late Jeffrey and Jonathan McCrone. She is survived by six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Eoline valued education and earned her bachelor’s degree from Youngstown University and her master’s degree from Kent State University, both while raising her five children. She focused on reading as a foundation for education.

Her long career as an elementary school teacher continued after she moved to Silver Spring. She was one of the oldest substitute teachers in MCPS and worked into her 90s.

She valued her friends in the Leisure World Women’s Club and was an active member of the Interfaith Chapel. She felt she had lived a very blessed life and was always generous in her support of various charities.

A memorial service for her life is planned for Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Colesville Presbyterian Church, 12800 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eoline’s name to The National Park Foundation, https://give.nationalparks.org; or to Hospice of Montgomery and Prince Georges County,
