Cell phone smuggling attempt foiled at Karachi airport

KARACHI: Customs officials foiled a mobile phone smuggling attempt at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, ARY News reported on Monday.

According to customs officials, two passengers were arrested upon arrival at Karachi airport from Dubai.

The customs officials also seized 28 mobile phones, 2 laptops, 50 parcels and 40 water bottles, worth over Rs 6,451,000.

In addition, charges have been filed against the two passengers under the Customs Act.

Earlier, Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel had successfully foiled a drug smuggling attempt and arrested one person at Peshawar airport.

The arrested person, identified as Sheeraz, was supposed to board a flight from Peshawar to Karachi, where a security official found his luggage suspicious.

While searching his luggage, ASF officers found a total of 648 grams of ICE drugs, which they had skillfully hidden in two of his bags.

After preliminary investigation, the suspect was handed over to the ANF authorities, together with the ice heroin found.
