Capacity Building Workshop on Intangible Cultural Heritage Held at Fazl Ali College

The Language Translation Centre (LTC) of Fazl Ali College facilitated a capacity building workshop on ‘Documenting and Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Nagaland’ from 19th to 20th July 2024. The workshop was conducted by a team of four members from Banglanatak and targeted selected students and alumni.

The project is supported by the German Consulate in Kolkata and aims to strengthen the cultural identity and recognition of local Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) forms and their practitioners in selected districts of Nagaland.

The workshop aimed to encourage community participation in preserving authentic Naga customs, skills and heritage. The team outlined their objectives, which included creating a storytelling platform to tell the cultural stories of local communities, promoting intercultural collaboration and protecting the cultural rights of artists and artisans through branding tools.

The workshop also provided an educational overview of UNESCO conventions and introduced key terms such as ICH and inventory. Participants were also trained in documentation tools and methods, ethics, and photo and video editing skills.

The workshop concluded with preparations for the practical session on July 20, 2024, which will be held at Ungma Village. A select group of students will have the opportunity to work with the team after the workshop. A total of 27 students from different disciplines attended the event.
