Zanesville Employees Volunteer During Purina Cares Day

ZANESVILLE – Employees at Purina’s Zanesville plant recently participated in the company’s 23rd annual Purina Cares Day by devoting two days to volunteering and community service, according to a press release.

Projects included food safety, community improvements, and animal shelter restoration and improvements. Purina employees performed a variety of services, from cleaning, organizing, and distributing supplies to various local agencies. These included the Community Cupboard, Habitat for Humanity, James D. Singer Center, Muskingum Behavioral Health, Muskingum County K-9 Adoption Center, Animal Shelter Society, and United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties.

“Purina Zanesville truly lives up to its mantra of ‘people and pets are better together,’” said April Gibson, Animal Shelter Society’s executive director, in the release. “The team was excited to help beautify our facility, painting a total of 13 kennels, a conference room, office and hallway; creating a brighter, more welcoming environment for the animals in our care.”

The Zanesville team mobilized more than 55 employees in two days and donated an estimated 660 hours of volunteer service to the community.

“United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan County’s goal is to bring people together to build strong, equitable communities where everyone can thrive,” the agency’s Community Impact Coordinator Katie Grubbs said in the release. “It was amazing that Purina Zanesville volunteered their time to help the organization and create change in our community, whether it’s helping people find shelter, food or a friend.”

Purina Cares Day is one of many ways Purina supports the communities where its employees live and work. The company also donates more than $30 million annually in financial and product resources to pet and community nonprofits across the country. Purina’s Zanesville plant employs more than 125 local associates.

“Purina Zanesville is honored to be able to make such an impact in the communities where we live and work,” said plant manager Nabor Carino in the release. “Our associates were able to donate their time to a wide variety of organizations to help the people and pets of Zanesville in need.”
