Maradu: Maradu opposition protests against lack of facilities at LP school | Kochi News

Kochi: Opposition councillors of Maradu Municipality have decided to protest against the municipality’s negligence towards Maradu Mangayil Lower Primary School, which falls under the local government. The councillors said that despite requests from teachers and the parents’ association (PTA), no effort has been made to renovate the school building. In June, the councillors had alleged that a fitness certificate was issued to the school in May without ensuring that the school had facilities and safe infrastructure for students. “Students are being forced to study in leaky classrooms,” said opposition leader of the municipality CR Shanavas. Shanavas said that Rs 5 lakh had been allocated in the municipal budget for the renovation of the school, but the fund has not been utilised yet. The opposition will start protests from Monday. PTA president Vipin S said that numerous complaints by the association and teachers to the municipality have yielded no result. “On July 9, the municipal officials placed tarpaulins over the roof to prevent leakage. However, classrooms continue to leak during heavy rains,” Vipin said.
