Global Warming: Plantation Campaign to Combat Global Warming by UP CM Yogi Adityanath | Lucknow News

Lucknow: Yogi Adityanath planted a seedling of a Parijat tree at the Gorakhpur zoo on Saturday evening as part of the plantation drive. Highlighting the growing threats of climate change, the CM spoke about how extreme heat, excessive rainfall and untimely floods were a stark warning of global warming. The state government, he said, was committed to making the earth green again and addressing these challenges. “In a major step towards this goal, UP has achieved a monumental feat by planting 36.50 crore seedlings in a single day. This unprecedented initiative, spearheaded by a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saw wide public participation,” the CM said. Highlighting the significant environmental changes that have taken place this year, the CM said Gorakhpur and adjoining districts were reeling under a severe heat wave with temperatures reaching an unprecedented 46-47 degrees Celsius, instead of the usual 42-43 degrees. He further cited irregularities in weather patterns, including excessive rainfall, untimely flooding and occasional droughts, and attributed them to global warming, recalling that last year, floods occurred in October, while the floods in the region normally subside by mid-September. This year, however, UP witnessed floods in July for the first time. In the first week of the month, he said, 24 districts in UP were affected. “This change in weather is a warning for the future. We have to improve on time, otherwise nature will correct itself,” he added. The CM also spoke about the Godhoiya Nala project in Gorakhpur, which aims to address drainage problems in the city. He said waterlogging in urban areas can be solved only by removing encroachments from drains.
