10 hours of heavy rain causes severe flooding in Trat, worst in 30 years

The persistent heavy rain in Trat province since the morning of July 19 has resulted in more than 100 millimeters of accumulated rainfall. The downpour caused significant flooding in several areas, especially in Muang district, including Trat township, Wang Krachae, Nong Samet and Noen Sai. Major and minor roads have been flooded since 15:00, coinciding with the end of school hours and rush hour, causing severe traffic congestion.

In Trat Municipality, especially in front of Wimolwitthaya Community School on Therdcharan Road, floodwaters reached 10-20 centimeters, making it difficult for parents driving cars and motorbikes to pick up their children. Similar conditions were reported on Municipality Roads 3 and 5 and Sukhumvit Road near Mae Supermarket, where water levels reached 20-50 centimeters. Trat Municipality deployed fire trucks to push water into drainage canals, allowing for better water flow and mitigation.

Mayor Surasak Phutiphut set up a temporary coordination center on the first floor of Trat Municipal Office to assist affected residents. The center is available 24/7 for emergencies.

In addition, reporters noted that on Trat-Laem Ngop Road, from the entrance of Wat Lamduan to the intersection with Nong Samet, all four lanes were flooded for almost a kilometer. Some cars and motorcycles were stuck in the water and many vehicles could not pass through. Officials from Nong Samet Municipality were sent to provide assistance.

According to local residents, this is the worst flooding in 30 years. The flooding followed more than 10 hours of continuous heavy rainfall.

The main and secondary roads have been flooded since 3pm, which coincides with school holidays and rush hour, causing serious traffic jams.
