UN Secretary-General concerned about Israeli airstrikes on Yemeni port of Hodeida

New York: United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed deep concern over recent Israeli airstrikes in and around the port of Hodeida in Yemen.

The Israeli entity has claimed responsibility for the attacks, claiming that the attack is in response to previous attacks by the Houthis on the Israeli entity.

According to initial reports, the attack by the Israeli entity has left a number of people dead and more than 80 injured, as well as causing significant damage to civilian infrastructure.

In a statement from his spokesman’s office, Guterres called on all parties involved to avoid attacks that could harm civilians and damage civilian infrastructure.

The UN Secretary-General has expressed deep concern about the risk of further escalation in the region and urged everyone to exercise utmost restraint.

The Yemeni News Agency (Saba) reported earlier that the Israeli strikes targeted oil tanks at the Hodeida port and the governorate’s power plant, causing fires in tanks holding oil products.

Yemen’s Ministry of Health reported shortly afterwards that three people were killed and 87 others injured in the attack.

An official source in the Yemeni government condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli incursions and the violation of the sovereignty of Yemeni countries, describing the Israeli incursions as a clear violation of all international laws and norms. The source called on the international community and the Security Council to assume their responsibility to protect international peace and security.
