Experts have discovered that cycling can reduce the risk of premature death by as much as 47%.

According to a recent study, cyclists face a 47% risk lower risk of premature death compared to other individuals. In addition, the risk of hospitalization for any reason is 10% lower for cyclists compared to those who use buses, cars or trains for their daily commute.

Cycling also significantly reduces the risk of dying from cancer by 51%, heart disease by 24% and mental health problems by 20%. The study followed the activities of more than 82,000 people for 18 years, ranging in age from 16 to 74 at the start of the study.

Participants reported their primary modes of transportation for commuting. Notably, most pedestrians were women working shifts and traveling short distances, while most cyclists were men working shifts and living in urban areas without owning property.

Interestingly, cyclists are twice as likely to have a traffic accident than cyclists travelling by car, bus or train. This underlines the need for safer cycling infrastructure.
