Local competitors set top times at NDSF 5K run | News, Sports, Jobs


Kari Gibb/MDN The 5K drew 420 participants from across North Dakota and several states and was the first event of the 2024 North Dakota State Fair.

With the North Dakota State Fair (NDSF) in Minot, the fun kicked off with the NDSF 5K fun run on Saturday, July 20, starting at the South Hills Softball Complex and finishing at the State Fairgrounds. The start time was 8:45 a.m. and the event had 420 participants from across North Dakota and other states.

In the men’s event, Jacob Jensen of Minot took first place with a total time of 15:36.36, while Holter Bridwell of Bismarck came in second, 20 seconds behind, with a time of 15:56.86. Casey McMahon of Minot finished in third place with a time of 16:16.65. Camden Jasmin of Williston was fourth with a time of 16:23.40, while Dallin Chapman of Minot Air Force Base rounded out the top five with a time of 16:44.88.

Des Lacs-Burlington phenom, Brynn Hanson took first place in the women’s event, placing 29th overall with a time of 19:09.11, while Bowbells’ Anna Peterson took second with a time of 19:12.03. Bellow Bowbells athlete, Sarah Peterson took third with a time of 19:16.87 and Minot runner Olivia Brown took fourth with a time of 19:22.54. Minot’s Kellie Meyer ran a time of 19:36.64 to round out the women’s top five.

In the mixed age group for racers 12-16, Bismarck’s Jack Elsberry was sixth overall with a time of 16:50.58, while Bracston Kaufman, also of Bismarck, was seventh with a time of 17:00.96 at the finish. Hayden Anderson continued the Bismarck trend with a time of 17:14.34 for ninth overall, while Bismarck’s Zachary Eberle was 14th with a time of 17:36.39. Bismarck runner Deven Rels rounded out the top five in the age group, taking 18th overall with a time of 17:54.73 to finish.

In the mixed category of racers up to 11 years old, girl M Berg was 45th overall and first in the age category. Boy M Faul of Minot was 79th overall and second in the age category. Boy K Kelly of Minot who competed was 86th overall, girl K Tollefson was 127th and boy L Braunbberger was 149th overall for the top five in the mixed age category.
