Remembering Ronald Morris Baker – Lincoln Parish Journal

On Thursday, July 18, 2024, Ronny went home to be with our Lord and Savior.

Funeral services for Ronald Morris “Ronny” Baker, age 75, of Ruston, LA, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2024, at Alabama Presbyterian Church near Choudrant, with Reverend Ricky Edmiston officiating. Burial will be in Sibley Cemetery near Choudrant, under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Ruston.

Ronny lived his entire life in the Choudrant community. He graduated from Choudrant High School and studied welding at the Technical College in Ruston. He initially began a career as a truck driver for a few years before discovering his true passion as a farrier. After starting a family, Ronny followed in his father’s footsteps by becoming a school bus driver for Lincoln Parish while continuing his career as a farrier. Later in life he started Baker’s Deer Processing which he also ran for several years. Ronny retired as a bus driver after 30+ years and gradually retired from his long career as a farrier after 50! years of hard work working all over Northern Louisiana. His two sons have fond memories of summers spent helping his father shoe horses. Ronny enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and was also known for his ability to sharpen a knife. He was a bus driver to many, a cowboy to some, but his best title was to be called Pappy. The family would like to thank all the good friends and family who visited and cared for him during his final days. Special thanks to Amy Luker who cared for him and her daughter Lilly who entertained her endlessly with singing and dancing.

Ronny is survived by his two sons, Clay Baker and Justin Baker and his wife Emily; grandsons Joseph Baker, Tristan Baker and Jacob Baker; nephew Randy Upchurch; nieces Suzy Gardunio, Tracey Renfrow and Emily Gaylor; as well as numerous great-nephews and nieces and a great many friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Morris Clayton and Emma Lee Baker and his sister Johnette Upchurch.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons Joseph, Tristan and Jacob, as well as good friends Tim Smith, Steve Baker, Greg Franklin, Jeremy Barmore and Robert Nolan.

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the Alabama Presbyterian Church Family Life Center. To leave an online memorial message for the family, please visit http://www.owensmemorialfuneralhome.com
