SANParks urges caution after 2 cyclists robbed in Table Mountain Park

A joint effort in Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) has led to the arrest of two suspects after two mountain bikers were robbed between Bokkemanskloof and Schoorsteenberg on Sunday morning.

According to SANParks, the joint operation, involving the South African Police Service (SAPS), Hout Bay Community Crime Prevention, volunteers from TMNP, SANParks Sea, Air and Mountain Unit and SANParks Rangers, was activated following the incident.

“This rapid, collaborative response was initiated from the TMNP control room following an alert from Hout Bay Communication Crime Prevention,” SANParks said in a statement.

This ‘rapid response’ by SAPS and volunteers resulted in the arrest of the two suspects in the Constantiaberg area of ​​Table Mountain National Park, above Hout Bay.

“The suspects were found in possession of dangerous weapons and stolen items. The victims were unharmed and a case has been opened with Hout Bay SAPS by the victims, who were assisted by SANParks rangers,” SANParks added.

Following the incident, the park’s management team has urged users to exercise caution when engaging in outdoor activities and to do so in groups.
