According to the minister, 173,350 houses have been allocated to Christians, followed by Sikhs (49,670 houses), Buddhists (19,707), Jains (10,457) and Zoroastrians (1,127).

Launched in June 2015, PMAY-U is being implemented in the spirit of cooperative federalism through states and union territories, he said. So far, over 1.18 crore houses have been approved under the scheme.

“Of the approved houses, 11.4 million have been grounded for construction; of these, 8.5 million have been completed/delivered,” Sahu said in the response.

The tenure of the scheme, which was earlier until March 31, 2022, has been extended until December this year, with the exception of the Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) arm of the scheme, to complete all approved houses without changing the financing pattern and implementation methodology.
