Should Telangana’s share in the central

Should Telangana’s share be included in the central budget..!?

* The Telangana government has pinned a lot of hopes on the central budget.
* Residents of Telangana who expect to receive the expected amount.
* Will there be any moves in the budget towards a steel plant in Khammam?

The Telangana government and the people of Telangana have high expectations that the Union Budget will be presented in Parliament on 23rd of this month. The Telangana government has already sent Central proposals to give a green signal to some new projects along with long-pending projects. The state government is of the opinion that this time the expected amount of funds will be available from the Centre. The Telangana budget will be allocated in line with the allocation of the central budget. While funds are allocated to the states in proportion to their population, the state was calculated to get a 3% share of the centrally sponsored schemes, but the state got only 1.4%, as per the calculations of the state finance ministry. Last year, the Telangana government expected Rs 41,529 crore in grants, but only Rs 9,729 crore was received.

But the people of Telangana want their 19 demands to be fulfilled in this budget. The people of the state want construction, modernisation and doubling of new railway lines along with setting up of a steel plant in Khammam district and a railway coach factory in Kazipet. They want to allocate funds for the Palamuru Ranga Reddy lift project.

The people of Telangana feel that they should help the Moosi River Urban Front project, provide financial assistance for the second phase of the metro rail project and support the Outer Ring Road around Hyderabad. The people of the state feel that a multi-modal logistics park should be set up near Hyderabad to get the Centre’s support for the plan to build Indiramma houses.

To give permission for ITIR project, to set up Navodaya universities in the newly formed districts, to set up a military college in Elakurti, Warangal district, to set up an IIM in Hyderabad, to get Rs 347 crore for setting up Ayushman health centres, to construct elevated corridors on Rajiv Highway in Hyderabad and on National Highway to Nagpur. It is submitted that funds should be allocated for the construction.

The Telangana government hopes to allocate funds to widen Hyderabad’s Kalvakurti Expressway to four lines, get national recognition for eight roads in Telangana, allocate funds to Telangana under the Backward Districts Development Scheme, allocate funds to Warangal and Karimnagar cities under the Smart City Mission, and fund the modernisation of the state’s Narcotics Bureau. It remains to be seen whether the budget will meet these 19 aspirations.
