PM urges timely completion of projects

THERE YOU WILL BE: Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has directed the regional and district commissioners to monitor all development projects in their respective areas so that they are completed on time and serve the citizens.

Mr Majaliwa has ordered that all government-funded projects in the district and local councils must be 90 percent completed by December 2024.

“Regional Commissioners… ensure that you have up-to-date time information on the progress of projects, identify which projects have funds allocated to them and confirm whether they have been completed. In the case of stalled projects, investigate the root causes,” Mr Majaliwa directed during a virtual meeting with regional and district committees yesterday.

He chaired the virtual meeting from the Prime Minister’s Office in Dar es Salaam.

“The completion of the projects gives hope and confidence to citizens,” said Mr Majaliwa.

On the other hand, he demanded that the RCs and DCs should keep a close eye on food production in their areas, so as to enable the country to continue to produce sufficient food and produce surpluses.

He also urged them to conduct a survey on the quantity of food available in the warehouses. According to him, their data can serve as a basis for planning concrete measures to maintain the availability of sufficient food in the country.

In the meantimeMr Majaliwa instructed the RCs and DCs to ensure that all income from the district and municipal councils is first deposited in the bank and that a budget is later prepared on its expenditure.

“Effective monitoring of government revenues should be your permanent priority. Without it, we will not implement our plans,” he said.

He added: “You have heard our President (Samia Suluhu Hassan) put more emphasis on revenue collection, which is earmarked for financing development projects.”

Mr. Majaliwa also stressed the importance of regional and district leaders addressing citizens’ concerns, regulating environmental conservation, promoting the use of clean cooking energy, ensuring security and defence, and harnessing irrigation.
