Police headquarters denies sale of Falomo and other barracks

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) headquarters in Abuja has denied unfounded and worrying rumours circulating on social media about the sale of Falomo Barracks and other barracks in Lagos.

The company also denied claims circulating online that the properties were being redeveloped to facilitate their sale.

Instead, the police made it clear that the barracks, including Falomo, are being redeveloped in partnership with state governments and reputable developers.

The aim of this redevelopment is to increase the value of these assets through the construction of newer, more suitable and modern facilities,
ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, the Police Public Relations Officer, said this in a statement to Persecondnews in Abuja on Tuesday.

He said: “Following series of misleading posts and comments on social media claiming that the Falomo Barracks land in Lagos State has been sold, it has become pertinent for the Nigeria Police Force to address the shocking and unsubstantiated trends in discussions on the dilapidated status of barracks and their redevelopment, particularly the Falomo Barracks and others in Lagos.

“While we understand the concerns and interests of affected groups and individuals regarding the general welfare of police personnel, we aim to provide clear and accurate information regarding these unpleasant allegations.

“Due to the critical condition of several police barracks (including Falomo Barracks), the NPF leadership has devised a partnership agreement with sub-national governments and reputable developers to create value in the assets by redeveloping the barracks into more suitable and modern barracks with additional facilities and modern infrastructure.

“The redevelopment of the barracks (including the Falomo barracks) is expected to be completed soon, after which residents will be offered new housing on the redeveloped sites.

“Specifically, the residents of Falomo Barracks Blocks A and B each received the sum of two million naira (N2,000,000) as temporary relocation allowance only.

“This payment was made to 347 families after a validation process to facilitate their temporary relocation. It is important to note that this initiative is not limited to Falomo Barracks alone.

“Similar redevelopment projects will be implemented in all police barracks across the country over time. This is a strategic effort to improve the living conditions of our officers and their families, which is a major focus of the current police administration.

“The claims that the barracks are being vacated and the lands sold are false, mischievous and a calculated attempt to cause unnecessary division within the ranks of the NPF. The improvement of these facilities is a priority for the NPF and steps are being taken to effectively address the issues.”
