Dantsoho visits Tin-Can Ports, says infrastructure needs updating

The recently appointed Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, has identified the rapid rehabilitation of dilapidated port infrastructure across the country as his top priority.

Dantsoho, who spoke during an unscheduled visit to Tin Can Island Port (TCIP) on Tuesday, also pledged to work with port stakeholders to provide efficient services at the country’s seaports.

According to the NPA helmsman, adequate port infrastructure and robust stakeholder collaboration can help the country’s seaports increase revenues through efficiency and productivity.

Speaking to the press during the visit, Dantsoho reiterated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has tasked the authority to deliver efficient port services and improve the sector’s performance, adding that his management team is ready to do so as soon as possible.

“With the support we are receiving from the Honourable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, I want to assure stakeholders that the much talked about reconstruction of the Tin Can Ports Complex will move from rhetoric to action,” he noted.

Dantsoho also noted that the competitiveness of ports depends on good infrastructure and assured that the NPA will address that need as soon as possible to better meet the domestic cargo needs of Nigeria and that of neighbouring landlocked countries.

Abubakar Dantsoho, who was recently appointed Managing Director of NPA, takes on the role with over 25 years of practical operational experience at the authority.
