Birthday gift: Miami International Airport’s new cargo hub, with security measures

After Commissioner Raquel Regalado asked for a birthday present and Senator René García sought assurances, the county unanimously approved a proposed solution to the cargo capacity shortage at Miami International Airport last week.

The private investment of $400-600 million to handle an additional 1.5 million tons of cargo is intended to increase the current capacity of 3 million tons, which is being stretched to its limits.
