Downed trees, power outages reported in Morton Grove and other northern suburbs as storms hit Monday night

CHICAGO (WLS) — A series of violent thunderstorms on Monday evening caused downed trees and power outages.

The northern suburbs were hit hardest by the damage, especially Morton Grove and Glenview.

Morton Grove police reported trees down in the area of ​​Greenwood Street and Mamora Avenue. In Skokie, at least one large tree fell, blocking the road on Kilbourne Avenue.

At least one car was damaged by fallen trees and branches and local power lines were pulled along.

A house fire is being investigated in Glenview. The fire may have been caused by lightning, but authorities have not confirmed that.

ComEd reported that as of 8:30 p.m., approximately 3,930 customers were without power.

The heavy rains caused a flash flood warning to be issued in Boone and McHenry counties, which lasted for several hours. However, the rains were widespread, reaching as far as downtown Chicago.

Scattered storms are expected on Wednesday.
