HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Cities across West Tennessee are showing their appreciation for first responders.

Aid workers receive recognition in two local cities

We visited two cities, both of which organised events dedicated to thanking aid workers.

A recognition ceremony was held in Humboldt to honor the Humboldt Fire Department and the Humboldt Area Rescue Brigade for receiving their certificates as emergency responders.

“It means a lot to be recognized in the community for the time and effort they put into earning their certifications,” said Humboldt Fire Chief Greg Lencioni.

During the event, those who had received their certificate were called upon to receive it and have their photo taken.

In addition to the certifications, an award was also presented by the Humboldt Area Rescue Squad to one of their own employees.

The Earl Pivett and Randy Jones Excellence Award was presented to Richard Duncan of the rescue team for his service to Humboldt and the surrounding area.

“It’s always good to be honored, but that’s not what we’re here for. We’re not here for the glory and the satisfaction. We’re just here to do a job for some people, take care of them and do the best we can,” said Humboldt Area Rescue Squad Captain Richard Duncan.

In Hub City, it was the night of the first responders at the basketball court.

Before the Jackson Rockabillys returned home, they invited first responders to watch the game. Admission for first responders was just one dollar.

They also received free ice cream and the chance to enter a raffle with prizes.

October 28 is National First Responder Appreciation Day.
