Paul Muir joins Morris Museum as director of external affairs

MORRIS COUNTY — President and CEO Tom Loughman is pleased to announce that Paul Muir will join the organization’s leadership team later this month as Director of External Affairs. A renowned community leader and seasoned cultural professional, he brings a wealth of perspective and skills to the role at a pivotal time in the museum’s history.

This important appointment is the result of a thorough region-wide search that yielded more than 200 candidates. Muir distinguished himself as an outstanding leader, enthusiastic and well-prepared to shape the institution’s relationship with the community while also leading fundraising and audience development efforts.

“Welcoming Paul to the team is another exciting step in rebuilding our 112-year-old institution’s connection to the community,” Loughman said. “People and businesses make this region an extraordinary place, and the museum is at its best when we create great cultural experiences for all in a spirit of shared stewardship. Paul brings an unusual combination of entrepreneurship and service to this role that will help us do this important work.”

Muir is a lifelong area resident with a track record of service in many civic roles. He was elected to the Bethlehem Township Committee in 2011 and is currently serving his 10th year as mayor. Muir is a past chair of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Roundtable, currently leads the statewide advocacy group PreservationNJ, and recently served as chair of the New Jersey Council of Mayors. Professionally, he is the former Executive Director of the iconic landmark, Red Mill Museum Village (Clinton), and is the CEO of Vintage Motor Car of Hunterdon (Asbury). He recently led the development team at Imagine, A Center for Coping and Loss (Mountainside and Newark). Muir is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and has received the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce Good Neighbor Award and the Morris County Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Leader of the Year Award.

The Angeletti Group (Morristown) assisted in the search, which involved several directors and employees.

Founded in 1913 and located on 21 acres of woodland in Morris Township, New Jersey, since the mid-1960s, the Morris Museum draws visitors from throughout the region to its dynamic and acclaimed art exhibition program and performing arts events. The museum’s collection of more than 45,000 objects of art and material culture from around the world connects with the art of our time in exhibitions housed in the museum’s purpose-built spaces and in the historic Twin Oaks mansion, designed by McKim, Mead & White.
