Iranian official says Chabahar port is crucial trade route for Afghanistan

The Director General of the Ports and Maritime Organization of Sistan and Baluchestan has emphasized the strategic importance of Chabahar Port for trade, transportation and transit of goods, especially for Afghanistan.

Qassem Askari-Nasab stressed in an IRNA report on Wednesday that Chabahar is the most efficient and cost-effective route for transit to Central Asian countries.

Askari-Nasab described Chabahar as one of Iran’s most important ports, located in the northern part of the Oman Sea with strategic access to international waters. This location positions Chabahar as a crucial hub for Iran’s trade with countries in the region.

According to Iranian officials, Chabahar, with an annual loading and unloading capacity of over 8.5 million tons, offers a significant advantage to Afghan investors and businessmen.

The port facilitates the import of essential commodities such as wheat and supports packaging and processing activities for edible oil, food and industrial oils.

Askari-Nasab noted that Afghanistan can use Chabahar to export agricultural products, including fruits and dried fruits.

He noted that Afghan investors consider Chabahar Port as the optimal route for both export and import of a wide range of commodities, underscoring its importance to the landlocked country.
