TMC MLA tried to attack me on Bengal Assembly ground: BJP’s Suvendu

Kolkata: Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Wednesday alleged that Trinamool Congress MLA Tapan Chatterjee verbally abused him and tried to assault him on the Assembly premises.

Adhikari expressed his “uncertainty” on the assembly premises and wrote a letter to Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay demanding action against Chatterjee.

The BJP MP from Nandigram in the letter held Bandyopadhyay somehow responsible for the incident as the Speaker barred the personal bodyguards of the MPs from entering the meeting.

“I must state that today at around 12.20 pm in the lower lobby, Tapan Chatterjee, MLA of Purbasthali, rushed towards me and tried to physically assault me and hurled abusive language at other MLAs and reporters. I felt unsafe in the Assembly constituencies,” Adhikari wrote in the letter to Bandyopadhyay.

“This is the second time that we are being threatened by the members of the ruling party. They are taking advantage of the lack of personal security assigned to us within the Assembly premises. You have prevented them from entering the Assembly premises,” he added.

According to Adhikari, opposition members are not safe in the parliament building.

“As the custodian of the House, you are responsible if any untoward incident occurs within the Assembly constituencies. I request you to take appropriate action against the MLA,” he added.

The chairman later said he had launched an investigation into Adhikari’s allegations.
