Massachusetts has the best school systems in the country, report says

BOSTON — Massachusetts has the best school districts in the country, according to a new study from WalletHub. The state also ranked first on the personal finance website Ranking 2023.

The report ranks K-12 school systems in each state based on metrics such as dropout rates, class size and standardized test scores.

Massachusetts Test Results

Massachusetts ranks first or shares first place in math test results, Reading test scores and median ACT scores.

“Massachusetts is the state with the best school systems, with some of the best test scores in the country,” WalletHub writes. “Massachusetts ranks first in eighth-grade math and fourth-grade reading scores, and second in fourth-grade math and eighth-grade reading scores.”

The state also has the highest percentage of students in the country who receive a C or higher on Advanced Placement exams.

Massachusetts School Safety

Massachusetts ranks second in school safety, with one of the lowest rates of high school students being threatened or injured.

According to WalletHub, Massachusetts also has fewer reports of physical fights or illegal drugs on school grounds than the rest of the country.

According to WalletHub, the states with the best public schools are:

2.Connecticut
3.Maryland
4.New Jersey
5.Wisconsin

Elsewhere in New England, New Hampshire ranks sixth, Maine ranks sixteenth, Vermont ranks seventeenth, and Rhode Island ranks eighteenth.

Earlier this year, WalletHub ranked Massachusetts as the “most educated” is located in America.
