Red Light Violations in New York State: A Growing Concern

When it comes to running red lights, New York State is in the spotlight. Everyone knows that running red lights is not a good idea for many reasons. The extra 30 seconds you are trying to save could end up costing you more time if you get pulled over.

It can also end up costing you money and even your life. Let’s face it, in the grand scheme of things, it’s just not worth it. New York has risen to the top three most dangerous US states for red light violations. That means it’s not just New York City that’s not being careful enough.

According to research by Bader Scott, 18.83% of drivers involved in fatal crashes across the Empire State between 2018 and 2022 were caught red-handed… I mean, caught red-handed because they were running those traffic lights. That’s 1,345 of the 7,141 drivers who played a risky game at intersections across the state.

It’s easy to get distracted by the flashing lights of Times Square or get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the city. But it’s important to remember that country roads and suburban streets have their own share of red light problems.

Whether it’s the scenic routes through the northern part of the state or the beautiful drive along the Hudson Valley, everyone should be careful and respect traffic lights when driving through this beautiful state.

This study should serve as a reminder to drivers in New York State to slow down and drive so they arrive alive. Make sure you stop at red lights and pay attention to your surroundings while driving.
