Micah Richards didn’t want to miss out on his one chance at the Olympics. We’re not talking about Team GB fielding a men’s football team at London 2012, but about his nighttime activities in the Olympic Village.

Despite only staying for three nights, he was determined to make the most of it, telling Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on The Rest is Football podcast: “We went to training, came back to the village, those three nights we were up until 4am.

“You’ve got different campuses, Team GB in one block, Brazil, France, all these countries, and there’s this huge room full of condoms! It was like ‘What!?’ It’s clearly promoting safe sex and, honestly, I was absolutely fired up.

“I was on fire, honestly. I was a little bit thinner, a little bit more muscular, a little bit leaner, it was summer, I was walking around with my top off. One of the best times of my life, it was incredible.”

Guards required

A gold medal-winning athlete admitted to putting a guard on his door to ensure he could get some much-needed rest before race day. The anonymous person also had a system in place with his roommate in case either of them needed some privacy.

The athlete told CNN: “My roommate and I would put something on the door so we would know if the other was ‘busy.’ I feel bad saying it, but my coach would guard the door the night before me and my roommate went racing (because of our reputations)! But it didn’t really affect me. When I raced after sex, I felt light on my feet.”

‘Dirty stuff in the open air’

Hope Solo, the goalkeeper for the US women’s national team, has spoken candidly about her experiences in the Olympic Village, saying she saw villagers having sex in the open air.

She told ESPN ahead of the London Olympics: “There’s a lot of sex going on. With a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you want to build memories, whether it’s sexual, partying, on the field. I’ve seen people having sex in the open air. On the grass, between buildings, people going wild.”

Why keep it in the bedroom? During the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, six athletes from Germany, Canada and Austria reportedly jumped into a hot tub and indulged in a “whirlpool orgy.” All to stay warm on Canada’s freezing west coast in the winter!

Hook up apps crashing

Given the sexy atmosphere of an Olympic village, hook-up apps and websites naturally do a booming business during the Games. However, the excitement was too much for one site at London 2012.

Grindr, a gay dating site, suffered a loss of service in East London as athletes from far and wide flocked to the capital, bringing in a flood of new customers. The surge was too much for the site, which promptly crashed. It took a staggering 24 hours for engineers to get it back online.

‘More sex in two weeks than in the rest of my life’

There really is no excuse not to get laid in an Olympic village. Former table tennis star Matthew Syed made his debut at the 1992 Barcelona Games and revealed that he had more sex during the competition than ever before.

Now a journalist, he confirmed to The Times that it was the “sex party that people are peddling it as”. He added: “My answer is always the same: it’s too true. I played my first Games in Barcelona in 1992 and got fucked more times in those two and a half weeks than I had in the rest of my life up to that point.

“That is, twice, which may not seem like much, but for a 21-year-old student with crooked teeth, it was a small miracle. Barcelona was as much about sex as it was about sport for many of us Olympic virgins.”

Olympic brothel

Team USA member Josh Lakatos unintentionally ended up in a “brothel” during the 2000 Sydney Games. Even though his shooting event was over, he understandably didn’t want to go home early.

With the spare rooms available, Lakatos gave horny couples free access to the apartment. ESPN reported: “It went on for eight days, as dozens of Olympians, male and female, trickled into the shooter’s house — and that’s what everyone called it, the Shooters’ House — at all hours of the day, stopping by an Oakley gym bag full of condoms purchased at the town’s helpful medical clinic.”

Finally it dawned on Lakatos: “I’m running a fucking brothel in the Olympic Village! I’ve never seen so much debauchery in my entire life.”
