Canada asks for Israeli response to ICJ advisory opinion on occupied Palestinian territory

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is calling on Israel to “substantively respond” to the recent advisory opinion from the United Nations’ highest court that Israel’s presence in the occupied Palestinian territories is unlawful and must end.

The court’s non-binding ruling, released last week, was an unprecedented, sweeping condemnation of Israel’s rule over territories it conquered 57 years ago.

Trudeau responded to the court’s advice in a joint statement from Canada, Australia and New Zealand today, calling for a rollback of settlements in the West Bank.
