Scott County clears flood debris in unconnected areas on July 31

Scott County residents living in non-connected areas can request trash collection next week by throwing debris along the curb or in the public right of way.

Secondary Roads and Conservation is partnering with the Waste Commission of Scott County to dump FEMA-approved waste on Wednesdays beginning at 7 a.m.

They are asking residents to sort waste into three piles. Building materials such as drywall, wood and carpet. A separate pile for bulky waste such as flood-affected furniture, doors and stuffing. The last pile consists of large appliances including refrigerators, washing machines and water heaters.

Crews do not accept regular bagged trash or hazardous materials such as paint and electronics.

Removal begins in the northern area of unaffiliated Scott County and proceeds south. Crews do not return after their initial pickup unless the trucks need to be dumped to accept additional approved material.

If any waste is left behind, the owner must dispose of the material himself.

Residents with questions about waste collection can contact Scott County Secondary Roads at 563-326-8640. Questions about non-FEMA approved items can be directed to the Waste Commission at 563-381-1300.
