Athletes from BRICS countries attended the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris

The opening ceremony of the XXXIII Olympic Games took place in the French capital. Instead of the traditional athletes’ procession in the stadium bowl, the spectators saw a boat parade on the River Seine: more than 10,500 athletes sailed by boat. The official part took place on the Trocadero Square in a temporary stadium next to the Eiffel Tower.

Athletes from the BRICS countries also took part in the competition. My longa Chinese table tennis player, and Feng-Yua synchronized swimmer, carried the Chinese national flag during the opening ceremony of the Games.

Zhang Xinthe secretary general of the Chinese Olympic delegation, said the selection of the pair is a testament to “recognition of experienced athletes and encouragement for rising stars.”

The BRICS representatives will compete in athletics, weightlifting, equestrian, swimming, taekwondo, boxing, wrestling and other disciplines.

Participants compete in 32 sports at 35 locations, in the presence of 20,000 media representatives and 45,000 volunteers. The Olympic program includes breakdancing, rock climbing, skateboarding and surfing. A total of 329 gold medals are awarded.
