Governor Oborevwori honoured with Good Governance Award

…Becomes the eminent patron of the association of Urhobo sons and daughters

The Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, was honoured and appreciated with the Good Governance Award by the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation, at a glamorous ceremony that held at the Pauline Tallen Banquet Hall, Women Development Centre in Abuja.

The award was presented to Governor Oborevwori by the Grand Patron of the association and Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, Senator Ede Dafinone. The award is in recognition of the good governance steps taken by the Governor, particularly in the areas of mega infrastructure and socio-economic development, since he assumed office on May 29 last year.

Senator Dafinone commended Governor Oborevwori for the ongoing construction of three flyovers at DSC roundabout, PTI junction, Effurun roundabout and Enerhen junction as well as other ongoing projects in the state.

The Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria noted that it is heartening to see the construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc executing mega projects in some parts of the state. He urged Governor Oborevwori to ensure that such projects are executed in all three senatorial districts.

Senator Dafinone disclosed that President Bola Tinubu inherited a struggling economy, necessitating major economic reforms. He assured that the current economic woes in the country would be short-lived and that the benefits of the reforms would more than compensate for the hardships Nigerians are currently experiencing.

He commended the members of the association for their strong desire to promote unity, peace and development in the Urhobo nation through multifaceted strategies and programmes, stressing the need for well-meaning sons and daughters in the public and private sectors to support the association financially and morally to enhance its growth and success.

Governor Oborevwori who was represented by his Executive Assistant on Media, Mr. Igho Akeregha, accepted the award and said his appointment as Governor of Delta State was due to the divine grace of God. He has won all 38 cases filed against him by political opponents from lower courts to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

He assured that his government would continue to focus on building solid and sustainable infrastructure. This was why he had to hire construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to execute all the mega projects including the construction of three flyovers, pedestrian bridges and walkways. This would ease traffic congestion and promote economic growth and efficient transportation of goods and services.

Governor Oborevwori announced that the continued implementation of his MORE agenda (meaningful development, opportunities for all Delta residents, realistic reforms and greater peace and security) is yielding positive results.

He assured that he would always put the people first, that he would use the state’s financial resources to develop the three senatorial districts and that he would also guarantee equality, fairness and open doors to all residents of Delta.

“I feel honored by this award from all Urhobo sons and daughters in the Federal Public Service of the Federation and in the Diaspora.

“I am governor for all Deltans irrespective of political division or affiliation. We will continue to work together for the progress of our beloved state.

“As a proud son of the Okpe Kingdom and the Urhobo nation, I strongly believe in the greater unity of the Urhobo people at home and abroad. This association has proven that the Urhobo nation is indeed moving forward in terms of unity and development.

“I am happy that our people across the world are recognizing what my government is doing in Delta State at this time.

“My promise to you today is that I will continue to do more to manage state resources wisely for the benefit of all Delta residents.

“I will continue to ensure that Delta State is always at the forefront in infrastructure and socio-economic development, empowerment of youths, girls and women, quality health care, quality education for our students, boosting the agricultural sector and creating an enabling environment for public-private partnerships, inflow of foreign direct investment, FDI and so on.

“Delta State is moving forward and it is important that all Deltans, both at home and abroad, join forces with my board to help Delta move forward.

“I commend the sincere efforts of the leaders and members of the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in the Federal Civil Service of the Federation to unite our people, help each other, promote peace and unity of the Urhobo nation and so on.

“Keep the flag flying high and as your esteemed grand patron I will continue to do my best to support the growth of the association,” Governor Oborevwori assured.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the association, Mrs. Voke Alimatu Okolakpa, said a lot has been done to bring together all Urhobo sons and daughters in the Federal Civil Service in Nigeria and in the diaspora, noting that the synergy is growing stronger by the day.

She assured Governor Oborevwori of the group’s unwavering support through prayers and mass mobilization of the people. She disclosed that members of the association will soon hand over their personal voter ID cards to their respective polling units in Delta State so that they can vote for good governance in the ensuing general and local government elections.

The highlight of the event was the investiture of Governor-Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State as Distinguished Grand Patron of the Association of Urhobo Sons and Daughters in Federal Civil Service of the Federation and Diaspora.
