Langley to host BCLA minor box lacrosse provincial championships

The 2024 BCLA Minor Box Lacrosse Provincial Championships are underway in Langley and Aldergrove, with 21 teams competing in three divisions (A1, A2, and B) through Sunday, July 28.

The championships are organized by the Langley Minor Lacrosse Association, which has teams from all three divisions.

In addition to Langley, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Ridge Meadows and Saanich also play in the A1 division.

The A2 Division is divided into two four-team pools, with Chilliwack, Comox Valley, Langley and Port Moody in one group, while Coquitlam, Delta/Surrey, Nanaimo and North Okanagan are in the other group.

The B Division also has eight teams, with Pool A consisting of Abbotsford, Langley, Saanich and the Sunshine Coast, while Pool B consists of Burnaby, Peninsula, Penticton and West Kootenay.

For many players, this is their last year of lacrosse and they will move up to the junior program next year, said Langley Thunder President Alex Vanichuk.

“It’s quite an achievement to get here,” he said.

Saturday, July 27 kicks off with Division A2 Nanaimo taking on Delta/Surrey at the Langley Events Centre, and Langley Thunder taking on Chilliwack at the Aldergrove Community Centre.
