DC Jammu to lead ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign

JAMMU, July 26: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya chaired a meeting aimed at encouraging the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign aimed at planting trees in the district. The meeting was attended by key officers including DFO Suresh Manda.
The DC briefed the sub-divisional magistrates, heads of education, heads of medical services and other district officials about their role in the campaign.
He stressed the importance of involving panchayat ghars and the rural population to ensure broad participation and success.
The meeting delved deeper into identifying tree species that best suit the local environment and are easy to propagate.
Discussions also covered the numerous benefits of reforestation and strategies for protecting young trees. The DC reminded all participants to plant trees in their offices and homes and to plant trees in the memory of the martyrs of the country. He stressed on the ambitious target of planting one lakh trees in the district.
“All panchayats and urban local bodies in the district will participate in the campaign,” Sachin Kumar said.
The DC also discussed with the DFO how the conservation and protection of the newly planted trees can be ensured.
In a subsequent meeting, the DC discussed the waste management plans for both rural areas and ULBs. The discussion focused on waste sorting strategies and the management of old waste. The DC called for regular reviews of progress made towards waste management objectives and addressed operational challenges and future steps.
Key participants in the meeting included Additional District Development Commissioner Sher Singh, Chief Planning Officer Uttam Singh, Assistant Revenue Commissioner Dr Rajesh Kumar and Assistant Development Commissioner Dr Vikas Sharma, besides SDMs and other district officials.
