City of Danville Releases New Information on Village Mall Sale

The City of Danville has released new details regarding the recent auction of the Village Mall Shopping Center.

Below is a press release announced by the City of Danville on Friday evening, July 26, 2024:

The City of Danville is pleased to provide you with an update on the recent village auction
Shopping Mall. As previously stated, the 35+ acres that make up the Village Mall are divided into
three lots and then auctioned on May 13, 2024. It is our privilege to
announce that the portion of the shopping center stretching from County Market to the former Burlington
Coat Factory (the entire Mall building) has been taken over by Mr. Jimmy Virk. Mr. Virk is a
experienced investor with a strong background in the payment processing industry who
successfully entered the business and real estate sector.

Current tenants include County Market, Ross Dress for Less, Dunham’s, Pet Supplies Plus,
Bath and Body Works, JoAnn’s, Citi Trends, Hibbett Sports and Danville Community College
Barber School has leases ranging from one year to as long as five years and plans to
stay at this moment.

During their conversations with various community locations in Danville, Mr. Virk and his team said
concluded that improving the shopping centre’s appeal with additional entertainment and dining options
essential to its revitalization. Planned improvements include bringing back a movie theater
with dining service and luxury seating, which attracts a larger indoor entertainment/amusement
center, the introduction of a new restaurant and the creation of space for extra large stores
tenants. This redevelopment plan will involve repurposing certain smaller units to
the new spaces without this being at the expense of the overall covered shopping centre.

Mr. Virk expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts to revitalize the shopping center, envisioning that it
transformation into a vibrant communal meeting place. He stressed the importance of
Enriching Danville’s amenities and providing residents with easy access to entertainment
and dining options close to home, reducing the need to travel to Champaign or other areas.
Mayor Williams said of Mr Virk: “We have found someone with a vision for the shopping centre
that fits ours and that also has the experience and resources needed to make it a regional
attraction. Once this project is completed, it will greatly improve our overall quality of life, and we will
“We are doing everything we can to ensure its success.”

The city does not know who purchased the remaining lot. We will provide any updates
about it and the Village Mall projects as we learn more about them.
