If we do not have a responsible government, we have a responsible opposition, which today saved the image of the capital and, by voting for the proposal to transfer the rights of establishment in Podgorica, saved the women’s handball club Budućnost from closure, announced Jovan Rabrenović, chairman of the Podgorica Committee of the Liberal Party of Montenegro.

“Our city shrine will continue to bring us joy and pride, and the girls playing for the club will remain our heroines. The glorious history of the club with two European championship titles, with hundreds of top handball players and trophies won was almost uninterrupted and extinguished forever. Fortunately, Podgorica has an opposition that bases its political involvement on love for this city and that, as many times before, has been responsible for its club and the city,” Rabrenović said.

He added that as happy as they are with the happy ending to the months-long saga over the future of Buducnosti, they should also be sad that the outgoing government in the capital did not want to do what the opposition did.

“The members of the government did not intend to save the iconic Podgorica and Montenegrin club with their votes, so they were largely absent when this agenda item was voted on. However, the opposition remained serious and committed to their city and club and did not allow it to be closed,” Rabrenović said in a press release.

He added that this is not the first time that the opposition in the city parliament is more responsible than the government. He said that it is not difficult to remember every previous session of the Metropolitan Assembly in which the opposition representatives supported with their votes all proposals that were important for the functioning of the city.

“Our future must be ours, and that means all the men and women of Podgorica. Until that happens, we feel that some other clubs and some other cities are closer to you than the former majority, and you are not even in Montenegro! Citizens should know what an irresponsible majority they voted for, we believe that they will never allow themselves to make that mistake again,” Rabrenović concluded.
