Aboitiz Group sends aid to areas hit by Typhoon Carina in NCR, Cordillera

Following the onslaught of Super Typhoon Carina, the Aboitiz Group and the Aboitiz Foundation immediately mobilized the resources and manpower of various Aboitiz business units to provide relief to the affected communities in the national capital region and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Therma Mobile, Inc., a subsidiary of AboitizPower, and the Aboitiz Foundation donated groceries and rice to 2,247 families in Navotas and Malabon, who suffered severe flooding at the height of the typhoon.

In Parang, Marikina, Aboitiz Equity Ventures and Aboitiz Foundation distributed relief packages to 1,250 families and another 1,000 sets of school supplies for children to prepare them for the new school year.

Aboitiz Equity Ventures and Aboitiz Foundation immediately expanded their flood relief efforts in Parang, Marikina, providing 2,250 families with relief kits and school supplies.

To assist in the clean-up of roads in the Cordillera region, AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor and Aboitiz Foundation delivered 3,600 liters of fuel to the municipalities of Bakun, Sablan, Tuba, Itogon and La Trinidad in Benguet, and the cities of Bauko and Sabangan in the mountain province.

The fuel will power heavy equipment and chainsaws used by local authorities to clear debris from roads, some of which have been rendered impassable by landslides triggered by the heavy downpour. Quickly restoring access to main roads will help speed up the delivery of relief supplies and other aid to affected communities.

Ginggay Hontiveros-Malvar, president of the Aboitiz Foundation, said the Aboitiz Group immediately conducted an assessment of the situation in the areas severely affected by Typhoon Carina to determine what assistance the communities need.

“Our rapid response ensured that aid was delivered immediately to affected communities when they needed it most. We continue to work with the government as affected areas recover from the massive damage caused by the typhoon,” Hontiveros-Malvar said.

According to the latest report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, released on July 27, nearly 3.4 million individuals or 905,086 families were affected by typhoons Carina and Butchoy across the country. The rainfall prompted the declaration of a state of emergency across the NCR, as well as 87 municipalities and cities in Regions 3, 4-A, 4-B, 11 and 12.
