Centre must not paralyze states: Dr Ajoy Kumar

Dr Ajoy Kumar criticises NITI Aayog’s biased policies and accuses the Modi government of undermining federalism.

The INDIA Alliance has boycotted the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting in Delhi as former MP and senior Congress leader Dr Ajoy Kumar accused the central government of trying to paralyse states.

JAMSHEDPUR – The INDIA Alliance has boycotted the NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting in Delhi.

Dr Ajoy Kumar on Saturday criticised the central government’s policies and accused them of trying to paralyse the state governments.

Dr. Kumar highlighted the discrimination against opposition states by NITI Aayog in the last decade.

He argued that this undermines the principles of federalism.

Since its inception a decade ago, NITI Aayog has become an arm of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and serves exclusively as a propaganda vehicle for the Prime Minister.

Dr Ajoy Kumar also questioned the workings of NITI Aayog, stating that it has not strengthened cooperative federalism in any meaningful way.

Functioning of NITI Aayog

Dr Kumar described the workings of NITI Aayog as clearly biased, lacking professionalism and independence.

He stressed that NITI Aayog was suppressing all dissenting views and this, according to him, amounts to murder of democracy.

He called the NITI Aayog meetings a mere sham.

Dr Kumar pointed out that the treatment meted out to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the NITI Aayog meeting reflected the true nature of the institution, which he termed as completely unacceptable.

“Our federal structure is being undermined,” Dr. Kumar alleged.

“The central government should not try to paralyze the states,” he added.
