Pakistan condemns Israeli siege of Khan Younis, calls for global response

Shehbaz Sharif accuses Israel of genocide and wants International Court of Justice and UN resolutions to address inhumanity to be implemented

ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday condemned the violent actions of Israeli forces in Gaza’s Khan Younis, where thousands of people have fled due to heavy fighting.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern over the situation, highlighting the suspension of food and essential supplies due to the siege, which has led to a severe humanitarian crisis. He called on the international community, including the United Nations, to fulfill their responsibilities.

“The siege of Khan Younis has suspended the supply of food and other necessities to the area. A human tragedy has been born in Palestine and the international community, including the United Nations, should fulfill its responsibilities,” Sharif said in a statement.

According to the United Nations, at least 180,000 Palestinians have been displaced by the Khan Younis invasion in the first four days, many of them leaving without their belongings.

Sharif accused Israel of genocide in Gaza and urged implementation of the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which found the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories unlawful, and relevant UN resolutions. Sharif reiterated the need for action and called for the enforcement of recent ICJ decisions and UN resolutions.

The Prime Minister noted that Pakistan had sent humanitarian aid to Palestine and made special arrangements for the admission of Palestinian medical students in Pakistani colleges. He stressed Pakistan’s stand against Israeli oppression and its support for Palestinian self-determination at the International Court of Justice.

He reported that Pakistan had sent about 1,200 tons of relief supplies to Palestine through Pakistan Air Force aircraft and another 1,500 tons through three ships.

Shehbaz Sharif urged the international community to hold Israel accountable for its war crimes in Palestine. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with its Palestinian brothers and sisters.
