Maratha Quota Issue: NCP (SCP) Chief Calls for Discussion on Quota Issue with Stakeholders | Aurangabad News

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday said there was no need for any differences over the Maratha quota issue and all stakeholders should be involved in working out a resolution through consensus. The veteran politician also expressed concern if the gap was widening between the Marathas and the OBCs over the reservation issue.“(Maratha activist) Manoj Jarange and the OBC leaders should be invited together and people like us should also be called in for resolving the issue . Some people are of the view that the reservation cap should be increased from the existing 50%. This should also be discussed,” Pawar said. The veteran politician’s statement has come against the backdrop of Jarange stating that it was the responsibility of state govt to take the entire opposition into confidence and resolve the reservation issue. Jarange has also said even if the opposition was not ready to come along, state govt should take steps to fulfill the Maratha community’s demands.Responding to Pawar’s suggestions, state revenue minister and senior BJP official Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil questioned the NCP (SCP)’s contribution in resolving the Maratha quota issue. “Pawar has been the CM of Maharashtra four times. He has not even once discussed the Maratha issue with the community members. What has he done for the community?” Vikhe Patil asked. “He (Pawar) is best at creating confusion in the minds of the people on any issue and getting political mileage from it. The people know his business very well,” Vikhe Patil said.Citing the example of the renaming of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu), Pawar said the decision had initially sparked protests, but he gained the confidence of the stakeholders after speaking to all or them. “I had taken the decision after consulting all the members of the Vidhan Sabha in Mumbai. The protests broke out in Marathwada. I then gave up all other commitments and met students and visited colleges in Marathwada to gain their backing to our decision,” Pawar said.During the day, members of the OBC community blocked the Nanded-Nagpur national highway passing via Hadgaon tehsil of Nanded district . Protesters were supporting OBC activist Dattatreya Anantwar, who is on a hunger strike for the past seven days. They demanded that ‘bogus’ Kunbi certificates being issued to the Maratha community should be stopped immediately.
