Kakori Train Action Centenary: Year-long celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the Kakori Train Action | Lucknow News

Lucknow: To introduce the younger generation to India’s illustrious history, the state government is organising a centenary celebration for the famous ‘Kakori Train Action’ (1925) from August 9. The commemoration will continue throughout the year and will include a range of activities across the state to pay tribute to freedom fighters. Various competitions will be organised in educational institutions in Kakori and Shahjahanpur in Lucknow on August 9. The district administration will also felicitate the families of freedom fighters on the occasion. The forest department will organise Shaheed Smriti Vatika in each district as a tribute to the martyrs of Kakori. Preparations are also underway for a Shaheed Smriti Yatra by 100 cyclists to mark the occasion. A Kakori Literature Festival will be held, with an exhibition of books on Kakori freedom fighters, the freedom movement and the Kakori Train Action. Eminent historians and experts will participate in interactive sessions in schools and colleges. The events will also feature theatre performances, book launches and seminars related to the Kakori case. Digital versions of the books will also be unveiled. Poetry and story writing competitions on the Kakori incident, open mic events in schools and quiz competitions based on the lives of revolutionaries will be held. The State Lalit Kala Academy and the Education Department will organise spot painting and camp events at locations and monuments related to the freedom struggle. Painting, mural and clay modelling competitions will be held in universities, colleges and schools. Other activities include folk drama competitions and theatre performances. The UP Directorate of Culture will organise cultural processions and patriotic cultural programmes. Major events will also be held in Chauri Chaura (Gorakhpur), Ballia, Firozabad, Ayodhya, Mainpuri, Varanasi, Meerut, Prayagraj, Kanpur (Bithoor), Jhansi, Bareilly, Saharanpur and Gonda, among other districts. Under the directives of CM Yogi Adityanath, district administrations will honour the families of freedom fighters. The Culture Department will act as the nodal agency to coordinate with various departments.
