Report: Mets agree to deal for outfielder Jesse Winker

The New York Mets are working on finalizing a deal that will send the Washington Nationals outfielder to the club Jesse Winker to Queens, first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan. Passan added that the deal is still pending a physical and can’t be official until that happens. There has also been no mention of a return.

The 30-year-old has bounced back big for the Washington Nationals in 2024, hitting .257/.374/.419 (.793 OPS) on the season, along with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs. Winker has performed particularly well against right-handed pitchers, posting an .840 OPS. The Mets needed to find a left-handed bat, and Winker will provide immediate support to an outfield in need of an offensive boost.

Winker signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Nationals this past offseason and will be a free agent at the end of the season. Winker joins a trio of pre-deadline additions that join relievers Phil Maton And Ryne Stanek.

President of baseball operations David Stearns is sending a clear signal that the Mets will buy before the July 30 MLB trade deadline. New York currently sits in the third wild-card spot with a 55-49 record.

The story will be updated as more information becomes available.
