Parking changes at Shrewsbury hospital come into effect amid redevelopment works

The car parks at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital are currently being reorganised as construction continues as part of the Future Fit reorganisation of services.

In a community update, residents have been informed that a reorganisation of parking spaces at Shrewsbury Hospital will take place, with new ‘parking zones’ being created so that patients can find ‘the most convenient place to park’.

According to the Trust’s website, each zone has disabled parking spaces, with Zone 2 having the largest number of disabled spaces. Zone 2 has the most parking for visitors and patients.

The nearest car parks to the Emergency Department are parking zones 0 and 1. Zone 0 should also be used for the Copthorne Building and Mytton Oak House.

Parking zone 1 should be used for Ward Block, the Lingen Davies Centre, Hamar Centre and Macmillan Support Centre.

Zone 2 is best suited for the treatment centre, while zone 3 is best used for the basement services such as the pharmacy, outpatient clinics, oral and facial clinics, orthodontic clinics and the bereavement department.

In addition, a new road has recently been completed, which will be used by all visitor traffic from Monday, July 29. The road will provide construction traffic access to the new hospital site from Monday, August 5.

The main outpatient entrance to RSH will close next Monday, July 29. A spokesperson for SaTh said the decision was taken to “keep staff, patients and visitors safe during the major construction work that will take place in this area”.

All other entrances to the hospital remain open, with the new main entrance located at the treatment center. The hospital has reassured residents that outpatient appointments, clinics and the League of Friends Café will continue as normal while the entrance is closed.

Plans are being drawn up for a new one-way traffic system, with developers expecting it to be ready in September.

In addition, a temporary helicopter landing pad is now in use, which will remain in use until construction of the main building is completed.

The temporary site is located on the Boiler House Recreation Ground on Somerby Drive, northeast of the main hospital.

Based on the data, the helicopter landing pad is expected to be used only once or twice a month. Developers indicate that there will be no landings at night.

A walk-in meeting for neighbours was previously scheduled to be held in June, but was cancelled due to the general election.

A new date has been set for the session: Monday 5th August. The event will take place from 16:00 to 19:00 at the SaTh Education, Research and Improvement Institute SY3 8UY.
