Business supports government in overcoming challenges

Salman F. Rahman, the prime minister’s private industrial and investment adviser, said on Sunday that the business community is providing all possible support to the government to overcome all challenges.

“Businessmen support the government to take the country forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In line with the prime minister’s instructions, we are also working to ensure facilities for the business community so that they can overcome their losses due to the recent chaos in the name of quota movement,” he said.

Salman said this at a press conference after meeting with business leaders at the conference hall of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) in the city, BSS reported.

Among others present at the meeting were Minister of State for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu, Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, Minister of State for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak and the President of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Bangladesh (FBCCI).

In his speech, Salman said, “There is a container blockage at Chattogram port. The business leaders mentioned this in today’s meeting.”

“They also asked for an alternative internet connection so that we could keep things running if such a situation arose in the future,” he added.

He said that thanks to the restoration of full internet connectivity, business activities could be resumed as before.

Salman urged business leaders to take stock of their losses and submit them to the government so that the government can support them in reviving the country’s economy.

Salman F Rahman said the country’s reputation is at stake due to rumours being spread abroad. “We need to restore our image now. The damage can be repaired once we can restore normalcy,” he added.

Mahbubul Alam said businesses need long-term government support to recover from the damage caused during the protest against the quota reform.

The business leaders would also meet the governor of the Bangladesh Bank and the chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), he added.

Mahbubul Alam also urged the government to fully resume operations in Chattogram and other ports.
