A small town in British Columbia’s Interior has been evacuated as wildfires rage nearby. The Regional District of Central Kootenay issued a statement Saturday night issuing an evacuation order for the village of Slocan.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay issued a statement Saturday evening issuing an evacuation order for the village of Slocan.

The evacuation order also applies to more than 400 properties in the area surrounding the village, a community about 370 kilometres east of Kelowna.

Several out-of-control fires are raging in the area, including the Komonko Creek and Aylwin Creek bushfires.

Both fires cover an area of ​​over 29 square kilometers.

As of Sunday morning, 372 wildfires were burning in British Columbia, with 177 considered out of control by the BC Wildfire Service.
