Abuja residents distance themselves from nationwide protest

Abuja Aboriginal People through the Abuja Aborigines Network (AAN) have withdrawn from the planned nationwide protests against the economic hardship currently plaguing the country, which were scheduled to take place on August 1.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja over the weekend, the chairman of the 6,000-member network, Dr Donald Amagbo, said the group would seek dialogue instead of protests.

Amagbo, who on behalf of thousands of members of his network, completely condemned the planned protests, added that they were prepared to oppose the protest because it was aimed at creating anarchy and making Nigeria ungovernable.

Amagbo pledged to support the relevant agencies in maintaining peace and order in Abuja during the protest period. He commended Wike for implementing reforms in the FCT governance and transforming the nation’s capital in less than 12 months.

“We hereby condemn in its entirety and are prepared to oppose the planned protest that will take place in a number of major cities in Nigeria including Abuja.

“Our investigation has confirmed that the protest is aimed at creating anarchy and making Nigeria ungovernable as a failed state. Therefore, we (Abuja Aborigines Network) hereby pledge to support the security agencies in tracking down all undesirable elements who seek to hijack the protests.

“Yes, we also feel the pain, but dialogue should be the best way out. That is why our members will oppose the protest because we do not want any unrest to be created that will distract the FCT from the good work it is doing in the capital of the country.”
