Training to create awareness on agroforestry practices held in Vijayawada

A five-day ‘Training of Master Trainers’ was held in Narasaraopet from 23 to 27 July, aimed at encouraging farmers and tree growers to adopt Trees Outside Forests (TOF) and agroforestry practices. About 100 people from different sectors participated.

The training programme was organised by the Centre for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) in collaboration with the Ministry of Forestry, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Horticulture.

The training was conducted to provide participants with knowledge on agroforestry and its practices, benefits, opportunities, policies, logging regulations, suitable tree species and carbon credits. The training also included a field visit to Kotappakonda Integrated Forest Nursery.

Officials from the departments of Horticulture and Agriculture, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and progressive farmers participated in the programme. These master trainers subsequently trained and educated nearly 80 farmers in their respective mandals.
