Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer for MTN Ghana, made the announcement at the culmination of this year’s Girls in ICT programme, organised by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation at the University of Ghana.

Mrs. Adwoa Wiafe indicated that MTN Ghana has partnered with the Ministry in this initiative because it aligns with the company’s strategic objectives.

She said: “We are here to support the ministry and the programme because it is something that MTN holds dear and these are issues that we work on every day. We will continue to support this programme as long as we can.”

“We believe that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life, so connectivity and inclusion are things we support. This program aligns with our beliefs because of its focus on educating girls in ICT across the country,” she added.

The Girls in ICT programme is an initiative that equips girls in primary schools with knowledge in coding, website design, game development and animation development. MTN has supported the initiative since 2021 and has invested over GHS15.6 million in the programme.

With its investments, MTN has helped train nine thousand girls and nine hundred teachers in basic ICT skills such as programming, website design, game development and animation development.

Adwoa Wiafe urged the girls to take the training seriously and seize the opportunity given to them through the initiative.
