Second man injured in shooting at Trump rally released from hospital

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The Moon Township man who was injured during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump is out of the hospital.

James Copenhaver has been discharged from Allegheny General Hospital, a Highmark Health spokesman said.

Copenhaver, 74, was one of two people wounded in the July 13 campaign rally shooting in Butler County. The other man, a native of New Kensington David “Jake” Dutch57, was discharged from Allegheny General Hospital last week, AHN reported.

A person, 50-year-old Corey Comperatorewas killed. Trump was grazed on his ear.

Earlier this month, Copenhaver’s family thanked the people for the “tremendous support” as he recovers from his “life-changing injuries.”

“Jim would especially like to thank the first responders, physicians and hospital staff who provided his initial and ongoing care,” the family said in a statement from Allegheny Health Network.

Supervisor of Moon Township Al Quaye said that Copenhaver regularly attended board meetings.

“Jim is a super nice guy, I couldn’t believe this was happening to him,” Quaye said.

Dutch was released from the hospital last Wednesday. His friends told KDKA-TV He is a dedicated US Marine who loves his country and often visits the American Legion #868 in Lower Burrell with his wife.

“He’s a great guy, very loving, very supportive,” American Legion member Anthony Grimes said last week. “It’s just so sad that things like this happen.”

Members of the American Legion said they looked forward to the time when Dutch would be released from the hospital and could rejoin them.

A procession and funeral service were held for Comperatore on July 19. He was a Buffalo Township firefighter for 30 years. He was also a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves.
