BJP leadership urges state units to improve coordination, counter opposition propaganda

NEW DELHI: In a clear message to BJP leaders, the party leadership has strongly instructed state units to focus on coordination and strongly oppose the Opposition’s propaganda, be it allegations against the party on the Constitution, reservations, budget or other issues.

During the two-day meeting of the BJP chief ministers and deputy chief ministers that concluded on Sunday, the saffron party’s top brass made it clear that coordination between the party-ruled states and the organisational unit should be the priority of state leaders, irrespective of whether they are in the government or in the state units.

Governance and organisational issues were the main focus of the meeting, where leadership also sought feedback on various flagship schemes of central and state governments. Efforts to achieve “Viksit Bharat” were one of the focal points of the conclave.

According to sources, BJP president JP Nadda spoke on the coordination issue and Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the gathering that the opposition will do what it is doing, namely creating confusion and spreading propaganda. However, a BJP leader has to counter this with facts.

The Prime Minister also spoke about achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat through “lock the door“measures by the states and that”virasat ka vikas aur vikas ki virasat ka nirman“are the key components for achieving the Viksit Bharat goal.

Lack of coordination and the party’s inability to counter the opposition bloc’s claims that the BJP will amend the Constitution and end reservations were flagged as the major reasons behind the party’s “poor” performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. There were also complaints from the BJP cadre that the failure of party strategists led to the party losing a significant number of OBC and Dalit votes.

After the failure of the BJP-led NDA to achieve the much-vaunted target of “400 pairs” in the last Lok Sabha elections, this was the first such meeting. During the two-day conclave, the BJP central leadership discussed issues related to governance and organisation.

The conclave also called for replicating the successful flagship plans of some state governments in other single-party ruled states.

The Prime Minister, sources said, asked state leaders to work towards development of famous temples in their states along the lines of Ayodhya dham and Kashi Vishwanath corridor. States were asked to focus more on ‘Clean Ganga’ and ‘Swachh Bharat’ missions. They were also told to promote ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, Rozgar Mela, Aarogya Mela and Amrit Sarovar campaigns. BJP leaders were also told to emphasise how the Union Budget is pro-poor, women, farmers and youth.

“Mr Modi asked for a coordinated and strong effort by governments at the Centre and in states to ensure that the goal of Viksit Bharat is achieved. Both developing heritage and building a legacy of development have a special place in the idea of Viksit Bharat, Mr Modi told party leaders,” senior party leader Vinay Sahasrabuddhe said.

A total of 13 chief ministers and 15 deputy chief ministers from BJP and NDA-ruled states attended the two-day meeting. mukhyamantri parish meeting at the BJP headquarters.
The Prime Minister spoke at length about his government’s agenda to make India a $5 trillion economy and stressed the importance of public participation in welfare measures.

In his conversations with BJP leaders, including prime ministers, Modi often emphasises the need to ensure full coverage of social welfare schemes and that BJP-ruled states should be seen as examples of good governance.
“Our party is working tirelessly to promote good governance and fulfil the aspirations of the people,” Modi posted on X on Saturday.

Mr Sahasrabuddhe, who is coordinating the party’s ‘good governance’ exercise, said the prime minister also emphasised on using social media to maximise the reach of government programmes targeting different groups.
Senior BJP leaders, including ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah and Mr Nadda, participated in the meeting, which is organised regularly and focuses mainly on governance issues.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan spoke about the new education policy and the role of states in its implementation.
