Agriculture will be my first priority if elected – Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced that agriculture will be his top priority if he is elected president in the 2024 general elections.

He stressed his commitment to improving the sector and assured farmers that his government would work with countries like Brazil and China, which have higher crop productivity, to adopt their best practices and technologies.

Dr. Bawumia promised to establish district farm mechanization centres in all agricultural districts, which would provide affordable equipment to help expand production.

He is confident that these centres will play a crucial role in increasing agricultural productivity and supporting farmers in their efforts to modernise their operations.

During a courtesy visit to Sandem-Nab, Nab Azaksuk Azantilow, the Paramount Chief of Builsa Traditional Area in the Upper East Region, Dr. Bawumia, presented his plans to leverage international expertise and resources for the benefit of Ghanaian farmers.

He stressed the importance of implementing advanced technologies to increase crop yields and improve the overall efficiency of the agricultural sector.

Dr Bawumia’s remarks were part of his campaign tour, where he engaged with various communities and stakeholders to share his vision for the future of agriculture in Ghana.

He reiterated his commitment to putting the needs of farmers first and ensuring they have access to the tools and knowledge they need to be successful.

“Agriculture will be my first priority. We make sure that we have all the different pillars in order for farmers.”

“I want to take the best practices from countries like Brazil and China, which have higher productivity in crops like corn and rice. We also want to learn from them to adopt some of those technologies that will give them two or three times the yield per hectare that we do,” he said.
